On Fixing Capitalism
‘Play Fair’ Politics & ‘Play Fair’ Economics
This site is about the human future; and what we can do now, politically, economically, technologically, and socially, to shape it for the better benefit of all.
Democracy is when power is distributed between all, and all have an equal voice, vote, and rights. Money is power, especially in our system. Money buys power and manipulates it. It is NOT a democracy when a few people have so many billions that they literally don’t know how many mansions and supercars they own, while others struggle for survival and couldn’t buy a home even if they work 60-hour weeks.
Democracy dies when a few rich oligarchs control all. People often think, wrongly, that Russia is an oligarchy. Nope. It’s a dictatorship. One man has final control of everything. Anyone who crosses him gets poisoned.
America is a prime example of an oligarchy. A few mega-rich families, power brokers, mega-corporations, and the Wall Street/Banking elites ultimately control all the major policies of the country. Sure, we still have the vote (though neither party represents the working, middle class), but ultimately the American oligarchs put a heavy thumb on the scales of law to tilt everything in their favor.
Capitalism is broken. But that doesn’t mean we can’t fix it.
In the 1950s, the American dream was the envy of the world. The American middle class lifestyle was what other countries aspired to. Not so much today. Inflation adjusted, the wealth in the USA is nearly twice as much as it was in the 1950s. However, young people today are worse off than their parents. It is much harder to buy a home, pay for college, or even get adequate health Care. All of the great increases in wealth of the last few decades have gone to a small group of mega billionaire oligarchs at the top. Inequality and disparity levels are sky high and growing. Distrust and dislike of capitalism and our government has never been higher.
This website will mostly deal with various ways and policy changes and economic strategies that can change this, and fix capitalism, so that it once again can be something that people respect, like, and flourish with.
The original promise of capitalism was: ‘A rising tide lifts all boats’.
That is, as the rich get richer, money will trickle down and lift the boats and welfare of all workers. That obviously hasn’t happened! This website will look at ways to guarantee that it does happen and to make the system more fair to all, for the benefit of all. Now that’s real democracy!
